How to Convert WebP to JPG
- Click the upload area or drag a WebP file onto it.
- Set the JPG quality (90% is a good balance of size and quality).
- If your WebP has transparency, choose a background color — JPG does not support transparency.
- Click "Convert to JPG" and preview the result.
- Click "Download JPG" to save the file.
Why Your Files Stay Private
This converter uses the browser's built-in Canvas API to convert your image locally on your device. No file is uploaded to a server, stored, logged, or shared. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the converter will still work. Unlike most online converters, your image never leaves your device.
WebP vs JPG: Why the Output Is Usually Larger
WebP was designed by Google specifically to replace JPG and PNG on the web. At the same visual quality, a WebP file is typically 25–35% smaller than the equivalent JPG. That is the whole point of the format. So when you convert WebP to JPG, the file normally gets larger, not smaller — you are moving from a more efficient format to a less efficient one.
You would still convert WebP to JPG when a platform, upload form, or older software does not accept WebP. The tradeoff is worth it if you need compatibility.
When to Keep WebP Instead
- Website images — every modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) supports WebP. Keep it as WebP for smaller, faster-loading pages.
- Email attachments — most email clients now display WebP, but check before sending to older Outlook versions.
- Design source files — keep the original WebP if you plan to re-edit; convert to JPG only for delivery.
- Printing or old software — this is where you need JPG. Convert only for those specific uses.
